Learn about the Konga Cooperative:
The Konga cooperative stands as a proud member of the esteemed YCFCU (Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union), a collective shaping the coffee heritage of the Yirgacheffe region. Representing 2,400 dedicated smallholder members, Konga is synonymous with precision and passion in every step of coffee production. Ethiopian heirloom varietals, sourced from the forest and nurtured in intimate gardens, reveal the myriad of flavors the wild coffee flora has to offer.
Each cherry undergoes meticulous scrutiny by farmers, ensuring only the finest are chosen. Employing a 5-disc Aagaarde pulper, the coffee is pulped, then submerged in a wet fermentation for 24 to 36 hours. Post-fermentation, the coffee is cleansed and then undergoes a drying process lasting up to two weeks on fabric drying beds. To preserve quality, the coffee is shielded by plastic during peak sun hours and nighttime. Once dried, beans are meticulously screened, ensuring only those of size 14 and up make the cut.
Konga's commitment extends beyond coffee. As a testament to their community-driven spirit, the cooperative has rejuvenated local school buildings, generously equipping them with essential supplies.
